Pioniere der Artenvielfalt
The holdings of the Geobotanical Institute and Carl Schröter in the ETH image archive
Two image collections bear witness to a lost world and have a clear relevance for the present day: the Stiftung Geobotanisches Institut founded by Eduard Rübel was one of the pioneers of biodiversity. Rübel’s tutor, ETH Zurich Professor Carl Schröter, was a trailblazer in landscape conservation. Both used photography to document their research scientifically and disseminate it, not to mention popularise the notion of environmental protection.
