Portrait of the month: Adolf Kraemer (1832–1910)

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Adolf Kraemer (1832 to 1910), professor of agricultural business operations and animal production

From 1871 onwards, Adolf Kraemer built up the newly created department of agriculture at the Swiss Polytechnic Institute – which was at that time the only national training and research station for agronomy. He was the first person to spread the idea of an agricultural cooperative system in Switzerland, was a founding member of agricultural policy associations and collaborated on the formulation of the federal law concerning the promotion of agriculture.
