A volcano researcher on his travels
The volcanologist Immanuel Friedlaender (1871 to 1948) undertook extensive trips to volcanic areas around the world between 1900 and 1935. He took fascinating photos of volcanoes, landscapes and rocks. At the same time, they afford a glimpse into the life and culture of people.
A selection of 3,280 image have now been digitized and can be accessed and ordered on the Bildarchiv Online (external link) platform.
The complete collection encompasses approximately 8,900 photographs which are listed in an inventory (external link). The photos are managed by the Image Archive of the ETH-Bibliothek and can be viewed in the Reading Room Collections and Archives.
