Geofacets (external link) is a database and search tool, which makes geoscientific maps that might be hidden in peer-reviewed publications easy recoverable. Maps are easily discoverable on the web-based search tool via geographic or scientific keywords and are downloadable. Downloaded maps are accompanied by meta data, article abstracts and links that can be found in the original source articles.

Currently, 70% of the map content is georeferenced. Such maps can be immediately utilized in geographic information systems (GIS) software for further analysis.
