The Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a persistent, unique and internationally recognised identifier for academic authors that enables researchers to be identified and their research results attributed to them.

By using and creating a link to ORCID, you are supporting the correct and complete attribution of your publications to your name and ETH Zurich.

ETH Library is your central point of contact for questions concerning ORCID and coordinating its introduction at ETH Zurich.

Link your ORCID iD to your ETH person profile

How to create a link to your ORCID iD in your personal ETH profile on www.adressen.ethz.ch:

Click on the button "link ORCID iD" in your profile on www.adressen.ethz.ch (external link) and log into orcid.org (external link). Agree to its import. The ORCID link will then be created automatically.

If you do not have an ORCID iD yet, you can register on orcid.org for free in the same step ("link ORCID iD").

After the link has been created, your ORCID iD will be displayed in your public profile on ETH Zurich’s People Search (external link).

Add your ORCID iD to your publications

In the Research Collection (external link), ETH Zurich’s publication platform, you can now assign your ORCID iD to your publications as well as import new publications from your ORCID record.

Find more information in the Research Collection Manual.

By creating the link to ORCID in your personal profile, you agree that your ORCID iD is displayed in ETH Zurich's People Search (external link) and can be used in other applications at ETH Zurich. The aims of this usage in ETH Zurich’s applications are:

  • Ensure research output is attributed correctly
  • Aid and simplify entry of publications for academic reporting and for display on web pages
  • Improve data quality within the systems
