Registering

In order to use certain services private individuals and companies have to register as a library client. As a student or employees of ETH Zurich you are automatically registered.

  • Private individuals and companies

    Register with the NEBIS network (Network of Libraries and Information Centers in Switzerland): registration form
    Companies have to register with the Customer Service.

    Have your user account activated
    Arrange to have the Customer Service at the ETH-Bibliothek InfoCenter or at your home library activate your user account.

    Change of address
    You can update your User account yourself or notify Customer Service of any changes of address.

  • Members of ETH Zurich

    All students and employees of ETH Zurich are automatically library clients. Those services of the ETH-Bibliothek requiring a login can be accessed by using your nethz login. Your ETH Card serves as library card.
    Please manage your address details in your profile in the ETH Zurich address database only (www.adressen.ethz.ch) and not directly in your library user account.

I have never used the ETH-Bibliothek before. What do I have to do? All members of ETH Zurich are automatically members of the library. If you are using the ETH-Bibliothek for the first time, we will be happy to tell you about our rules for users, lending periods, services etc. Contact
Do I need a library card? Your ETH Card serves as library card for the ETH-Bibliothek and other libraries in the NEBIS network. You will need the ETH Card to collect documents that you have ordered.
Is my previous library login still valid? Yes, it can still be used. However, we recommend only using your nethz login in future.
I can no longer see what I have borrowed and ordered in my account when I log in using nethz. Unfortunately, your data could not be matched automatically as the system was changed. Please consult the ETH-Bibliothek Information service.
I have ordered a book but have not received it yet. What do I have to do? Please check in your user account whether your order was registered. If so, please check your address data at www.adressen.ethz.ch.
Who should I contact if I have forgotten my nethz password? Please contact either your local IT support group (ISG) or the Service Desk at ETH Zurich IT Services.
Why are notifications from the ETH-Bibliothek no longer sent to my email account? Your library user account automatically contains the same email address as your profile at www.adressen.ethz.ch.
If you would like to receive notifications via a different email address, you can arrange for them to be forwarded at www.password.ethz.ch (under: "Meine Services", "Mailbox", "Neuer Forward"). Or set a specific rule within your email account to forward these notifications.
Where can I change my address? Please change your address in your personal profile at www.adressen.ethz.ch or send an email to the ETH Zurich IT Services.
I would like to be notified by text message when a document is ready for collection. What do I have to do? In order to receive notification by text message to collect documents that you have ordered, enter your mobile phone number in your personal profile (section Communication Data) at www.adressen.ethz.ch and certify the number.
I work in a department which has its own library. Do I have any special rights, such as longer loan periods, courier delivery etc.? Please contact your department library to set up any special rights.
Why is my department library not included as a possible collection point on the lending menu? The department library has to be entered as your regular library. Please contact your department library.
How can I borrow documents from the IDS network (IDS)? ETH employees: Please use our interlibrary loan service.
ETH students: Please contact the Information service of the ETH-Bibliothek.
I am leaving ETH Zurich. What must I do if I want to continue using the ETH libraries? Normally, your nethz login will no longer be valid and your ETH Card has to be handed in. In order to carry on using the library, you must obtain a new library card and a new login at one of the desks serving the ETH libraries.
