Research funders tighten up open-access guidelines

The National Institutes of Health will punish offences against their open access guidelines as of spring 2013.

The National Institutes of Health (external link), one of the biggest research funders in the USA, will punish offences against their open access guidelines as of spring 2013 by retaining grant money (external link). In Europe, too, important research funding institutions are extending their efforts to strengthen open-access thinking.
The European Commission intends to comprehensively support (external link) open access within the framework of the new research programme "Horizon 2020".
