New tool evaluates journals according to various openness criteria

The publishers of the brochure "HowOpenIsIt?" now also provide an online database, the Open Access Spectrum Evaluation Tool.

It evaluates just how open the contents of a selection of around 500 scientific journals actually are.

The following aspects are assessed:

  • the type of access to the articles
  • dealing with author’s rights
  • the degree of openness in the re-use of contents
  • receptiveness to machine readability and automated export procedures
