Services for private individuals
ETH Library is a public library. As a private individual, you can also borrow our media for free, access our online resources and benefit from other services.
You can find all media and online resources available at ETH Library and throughout the NEBIS network (external link) (around 140 libraries all over Switzerland) on the Knowledge Portal.
To borrow items for free, you need a library account: Register
Reserve documents conveniently online. Once they have been processed, you can collect these orders up to seven working days later at one of our ETH Libraries. Further information on ordering and borrowing
Please note that the main ETH Library is not an open access library. Consequently, the documents need to be ordered online.

You can access extensive electronic resources and search tools for free from the comfort of your own home.
You can access ETH Library's licensed resources (E-books, E-journals, databases) for free in the ETH Library's public rooms. To do so, you will need the additional libraries.ch login (external link). Please note that access to the databases Perinorm and SciFinder is only possible for members of ETH Zurich. Selection of the resources by subject
Searches at the public stations are limited to one hour per day. If you would like to search for longer, please apply for a day ticket.
The libraries.ch login enables you to access a selection of academic E-books from ETH Library's holdings free of charge, irrespective of the time or place. Further information on E-Lending
Order individual articles or chapters from documents from ETH Library’s holdings as a hard copy or PDF directly in the catalogue. Please note that this service is subject to a fee. Fees (pdf, 182.59 kB).
Interlibrary loans and document delivery (subject to a fee)
If you were unable to find what you were looking for in our catalogue, you can order books to borrow or copies of articles from external holdings. Complete the corresponding form.
