Services in Research Data Management
We support you with your questions concerning Research Data Management. For example, we provide the following services:
We will be glad to advise you or your entire research group on issues related to research data management. Please do not hesitate to make an appointment with a member of our team!
We collaborate with Scientific IT Services to offer a twice-yearly workshop series (spring, autumn) on the topic of research data management; participation is free for ETH researchers.
We also host the ETH Research Data Management Summer School (link) which takes place each year in early June, and specifically targets young researchers (doctoral students, postdocs) within the ETH domain.
Upon request, we also conduct training sessions tailored specifically to your research group and requirements, the nature and duration of which vary (seminar, info event, workshop, ranging from an hour to half a day). Please do not hesitate to make an appointment with a member of our team!
We are there to help you prepare your Data Management Plan (DMP), and can review your DMP before you submit it to the respective research funder (SNSF, Horizon 2020) along with your project application.
We check your Data Management Plan for plausibility and conformity with the research funder’s individual guidelines. The review is performed according to the dual control principle, whereby usually two experts from ETH Library appraise your DMP; additional library experts or specialists from Scientific IT Services may be consulted as required. It is also possible to re-submit the DMP for review after an initial review and amendment process.
Your data and the DMP will be treated confidentially at all times.
Services in Digital curation
Publication and archiving of research data
With the Research Collection (external link) ETH library is offering a repository for digital Research Data.
Data that was uploaded to Research Collection will be preserved over long term in the ETH Data Archive.
You may check the current collection of archived research data of ETH Zurich by searching the Knowledge Portal.
Other digital Data
A vast range of collections present their digitized contents on the web to facilitate access to key sources and protect their valuable originals. The safeguarding of digital copies is often not the main priority.
This is where the ETH Data Archive comes in: it serves as a so-called "dark archive" for the preservation of the digital copies, complementing the physical archiving of the original documents.
For digital-born documents, the ETH Data Archive is essential for long-term storage. It can also be used beyond the dark archive function to display digital objects if no specific presentation platform is available.
The ETH Data Archive provides productive solutions in the following application areas:
Long-term archiving in the ETH Data Archive is already implemented for the Research Collection (external link) which is the publication platform of ETH Zurich as well as for data from ETH Library's platform e-rara.ch (external link) and the E-Pics Image Archive Online (external link). Archiving of other digital holdings such as e-manuscripta (external link) and E-Periodica (external link) will follow.
The services are also available to other interested parties from ETH Zurich.
The ETH Zurich University Archives hold administrative records of archival value and scientific as well as private papers of former professors of ETH Zurich and make them accessible to the public in accordance with legal provisions.
Electronic documents including websites of ETH Zurich are preserved in the ETH Data Archive. In order to deposit their digital documents administrative units are kindly requested to contact the University Archives directly. Further information regarding storage and access of selected parts of ETH Zurich’s websites can be found on the webpage of ETH Zurich Web Archive.
